Thai Element Theory in Massage: A Hands-On Class
August 5 @ 10:00 am - August 6 @ 5:00 pm CDT

Do you ever get the feeling that there is more to Thai Massage than just some cool stretches and movements done on a mat on the floor? For instance, you might know that sen lines are a part of the theory but maybe you don’t really know how to use them. You might know that Buddhism is a part of the practice but perhaps you don’t completely understand where it fits in. Maybe you’ve heard of Element Theory in Chinese Medicine but don’t know much about it in Thai Medicine.
In this two day weekend class at Weaving Rainbows in Asheville, North Carolina, Paul Fowler from Blue Lotus Thai Massage in Chicago will take you on a big picture tour of Thai Medicine and the twin pillars that it rests on, Thai Element Theory and Buddhism. We will create a context for practice that give you a new way to approach your work, from the perspective of the Traditional Massage Doctors of Thailand.
This practical hands-on class will teach you the basics of Thai Element Theory and the Buddhist teachings where it comes from. Then Paul will show you how to apply these concepts for therapeutic effect.
Paul has been practicing Thai Massage for 23 years, after first spending nearly a year there in 1999. He has gone back to study with his teachers over a dozen times in past two decades and continues to cultivate his relationship with them. Paul started Blue Lotus Thai Healing Studies in 2008 and has graduated 26 classes from this in depth 200 hour Thai Massage training in the context of Traditional Thai Medicine. It is one of very few such programs in the world.
